Our team of medical experts specializes in researching investigational medicines and providing no-cost study-related care to our participants.

Irvine Clinical Research is your clinical research provider in Southern California. We deliver clinical research opportunities and solutions to participants and sponsors, and offer all study-related medical care and medications at no cost to qualified participants. Once accepted as a study participant, you can expect to meet our physicians personally each time—taking the time to develop the best possible physician-patient relationship is at the heart of our mission.

Our independent medical research clinic is staffed by full-time principal investigators, clinical research coordinators, laboratory, and regulatory staff. We have proudly served thousands of participants from the greater Los Angeles area since our original founding in 1978. Participants at our clinic have been able to take part in multiple phases of broad-ranging clinical research studies, backed by the experience and careful oversight of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.

Principal Investigators

  • Elly Lee, MD

    Elly Lee, MD

    Chief Medical Officer & President

    Dr Elly Lee has been Principal Investigator on over 300 clinical research trials. She has more than 20 years of research experience across Neurology and Psychiatry, with particular interests in Early Alzheimer’s Disease and Major Depressive Disorder. She joined the site that became Radiant Research Irvine in 1999, and founded our site in 2005. She completed her residency in psychiatry at State University of New York, Stonybrook.

  • Edward Zamrini, MD

    Edward Zamrini, MD

    Director of Neurology

    Dr Zamrini is an internationally recognized memory disorders specialist. Since 1988, he has been dedicated to the care of patients with memory problems, teaching, and research. He has been PI or Co-PI on 73 clinical trials in Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. He is board-certified in Neurology, and holds Neurologic subspecialties in Geriatric Neurology as well as Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry. He completed his fellowships at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta, GA.

  • Razyya Abdulmumin, PsyD

    Razyya Abdulmumin, PsyD

    Associate Director of Clinical Science

    Dr. Abdulmumin is an experienced psychological rater. With over 10 years of experience, she is a qualified psychometrician on a wide variety of clinical scales, as well as a sub-investigator in neurology and psychiatry clinical trials. She was previously a clinical rater at the largest psychiatry clinical research network in California. She holds a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University. Dr. Abdulmumin is a licensed psychologist in the state of California.

  • Denny Lee, MD

    Denny Lee, MD

    Adjunct Medical Director

    Dr. Denny Lee has been a Principal or Sub-Investigator on over 150 clinical research trials. As a Principal Investigator, he was a top enroller for febuxostat and lesinurad studies of gout. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, and was previously a faculty member at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

  • Christine Leehealey, MD

    Christine Leehealey, MD

    Principal Investigator, Rheumatology

    Dr. Leehealey has had her own rheumatology private practice for over 15 years in Irvine, and enjoys offering her patients the opportunity to participate in research studies. She is a board-certified Rhuematologist on staff at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach and UC Irvine. She completed both her fellowship and residency at UC Irvine.

  • James Luayon

    James Luayon

    Clinical Scientist

    James has been in the medical field for over 20 years, dating back to when he was a CRC in New York City. Since then, he has worked at Pfizer, gone to medical school abroad, and served as a sub-investigator, rater, and senior CRC on several Alzheimer’s Disease trials. He holds an MD from Cebu Doctors University in the Philippines, and a BS in Biology from University of Miami.

  • Jennifer Mitolo, PsyD

    Jennifer Mitolo, PsyD

    Director of Enrollment

    Dr. Mitolo has over 20 years of experience as a clinical psychologist, psychometric rater, and in academia. She has held administrative roles at Cognitive Care Solutions, various community hospitals, and Columbia University. She completed her PsyD in Clinical Psychology at Yeshiva University. Dr. Mitolo is a licensed psychologist in the states of California and New York.

  • Dana Nguyen, PhD

    Dana Nguyen, PhD

    Director of Clinical Science

    Dr. Nguyen has over 20 years of academic and clinical research experience, including several years as a Sub-Investigator / Director of Operations with Dr. Steven Potkin at UC Irvine. She was previously a clinical reviewer with Signant Health (aka Bracket) and a senior researcher at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology.

  • Cydney Osano, MD

    Cydney Osano, MD

    Physician

    Dr. Osano, joins ICR with over 20 years of clinical experience in weight management and preventive medicine. She holds board certifications in both Obesity Medicine and Preventive Medicine. A UC Davis School of Medicine graduate, she completed her residency at Loma Linda University. Prior to medical school, she spent a number of years in clinical research, including roles as a Clinical Research Associate and in project management.

  • Tara Parnitvithikul, PhD

    Tara Parnitvithikul, PhD

    Associate Director, Clinical Science

    Tara has over 10 years of academic and clinical trial experience, and has played almost every role in the successful execution of a research study. She is a certified rater in neurology and psychiatry assessments, as well as a proficient research coordinator / manager. She holds a PhD in Psychology at Claremont Graduate University, as well as an MA in Psychology from Pepperdine University.

  • Jade Sanchez

    Jade Sanchez

    Assistant Clinical Scientist

    Jade brings over 6 years of expertise administering psychometric scales in English and Spanish and is dedicated to enabling research recruitment within the Spanish-speaking community. Previously, Jade served as a psychometrist at UC San Diego, supporting patients and families facing diverse neurodegenerative diseases. .

  • Elizabeth Sosa, PhD

    Elizabeth Sosa, PhD

    Clinical Scientist

    Dr. Elizabeth Sosa has worked in various clinical and research settings and has extensive experience working with seniors with cognitive impairment and dementia. She has over 10 years of experience with neuropsychological testing and is a qualified psychometric rater for many clinical scales. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology from Alliant International University.

  • My-Linh Tong, RN, MSN, NP

    My-Linh Tong, RN, MSN, NP

    Director of Research / Sub-Investigator

    My-Linh has 23 years of experience running clinical trials in neurology and psychiatry at one of the largest private sites in California. She has played pretty much every role from Study Coordinator to Sub-Investigator to Psychological Rater to Site Director. She holds an MSN and BSN from Cal State Long Beach.

  • Daniel Andrade

    Daniel Andrade

    Clinical Research Recruitment Coordinator

    Daniel has a background in public health education and research. He has also been a medical assistant at a community clinic, provided administrative support at UC Irvine, and been a manager at the largest e-commerce company in the world. He is bilingual in Spanish. He earned bachelor’s degrees in Public Health Policy and Educational Sciences from UC Irvine.

  • Araceli Araujo

    Araceli Araujo, LVN

    Research Nurse / Clinical Research Coordinator

    Araceli has been working a number of different healthcare roles since 2017 and joined ICR from Hoag Hospital in 2022. After a grueling workload of evening/weekend courses at Stanbridge University, she completed her LVN certification in 2022. She additionally holds a California state phlebotomy (CPT-1) license, and an Associate's degree from FIDM in Los Angeles.

  • Susan Bague, RN

    Clinical Research Nurse

    Sue has been a research nurse since 1998. Her broad experience has included managing a busy PK unit, running an adult residential facility, monitoring trials as a CRA, and cancer research. She played an important role in the initiation of our important work with anti-amyloid monoclonal antibodies in persons with early symptomatic Alzheimer’s Disease.

  • Cesar Calderon

    Cesar Calderon

    Senior Financial Analyst

    As a financial analyst with over seven years of industry expertise, Cesar brings a wealth of financial experience from healthcare companies like ClinEdge and Centessa. At ICR, Cesar leverages his expertise to drive strategic decision-making. In addition to his Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting Management from Northeastern University, he is currently enrolled in an MBA program at UMass Lowell.

  • Jacquelyn Call, RN, MSN, NP

    Jacquelyn Call, RN, MSN, NP

    Research Nurse / Sub-Investigator

    Jacquelyn joined us from St. Joseph Hospital in 2022, where she was a critical care emergency nurse since 2017. Prior to that, she has also worked as a caregiver for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia, an EMT, and as a behavior interventionist. She holds a MSN from Cal State Los Angeles, a BSN from Concordia University Irvine, and a BA in Psychology from UC Santa Barbara.

  • Brianne Campana, CPhT

    Brianne Campana, CPhT

    Pharmacy Coordinator

    Brianne was trained as a pharmacist in the Philippines and is a licensed pharmacy technician in California. She has 4 years of pharmacy experience. Her primary responsibility is to prepare study drugs for infusions. She is a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Pharmacy Technician Certified Board and holds a PharmD from Centro Escolar University in the Philippines.

    Christine Connolly, BSN, RN, PHN

    Clinical Research Coordinator

    Christine is a dedicated nursing professional with a BS in Nursing from Cal State Fullerton and is a certified Public Health Nurse. She has worked extensively in Alzheimer's disease and neurological care. Currently pursuing a Master's in Public Health, she combines clinical expertise with a commitment to patient well-being.

    Lexi Cornejo

    Clinical Research Coordinator

    Lexi is an emerging research professional who started her clinical career in behavioral therapy. Prior to then, she worked her way up from clerk to manager at a community grocery store. She holds a BA in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton.

  • Sandra Cronce

    Sandra Cronce

    Regulatory Affairs Administrator

    Sandy has been handling regulatory documents in clinical trials at our site for over 20 years. She has a deep understanding of the practical aspects of regulatory affairs during study startup, study conduct, and study closure. Sandy studied business at Cal State Fullerton.

  • Aeron David, RN

    Aeron David, RN

    Clinical Research Nurse

    Aeron has dedicated the last 5 years of his life to helping people with Alzheimer’s, first at Alzheimer’s Orange County, and now at Irvine Clinical Research. He has proven his skills in both nursing and as a research coordinator. He holds a BS in Health Science from Cal State Long Beach.

    Vanessa De La Torre

    Research Assistant

    Prior to joining ICR at the beginning of 2023, Vanessa was a shift manager at a popular coffee chain. Though she is new to clinical research, she has a background in data entry and archiving from her time volunteering in Research and Collections at the La Brea Tar Pits. She holds a BA in Anthropology with a Biological concentration from Cal State Long Beach.

    Clinical Research Recruitment Coordinator

    Sydney, a UC Berkeley Neurobiology alumna is passionate about neurology. She is currently a medical student, hoping to specialize in neurology. Prior to joining ICR, she developed patient-care experience from CHOC, Hoag, and UCI.. Her journey, spanning from waitressing to aspiring neurologist, underscores her commitment to serving others with empathy and kindness.

    Kianna Jackson

    Clinical Research Coordiator

    Armed with a BA in Biology from the University of San Diego, Kianna seamlessly integrates her background in biology research with her experiences caring for her grandmother battling Alzheimer's disease. She was able to coordinate for multiple studies during her first year as a coordinator at ICR.

    Clinical Research Coordinator

    Tracey is an experienced research coordinator who joined us from Boston Center for Memory. She’s managed multiple Alzheimer’s Disease clinical trials with quality and enrollment. She was captain of her varsity golf team, the 2015 National Division III Champions. She holds a BA in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience from Williams College.

    Ralph has over 15 years of experience in research business operations. He is certified by ACRP and MAGI as a clinical research professional. He holds a BA in Operations Research and Management Science from UC Berkeley.

    Information Technology (IT) Support Engineer

    Steven has been an IT engineer / Network Administrator at UC Irvine for over 15 years. He lends his deep experience to help our site run smoothly and is just an email or phone call away. He has a BS in Engineering from UC Irvine.

    Brenda Martinez

    Associate Director, Recruitment & Operations

    Brenda started as an administrative assistant and has been promoted to Recruitment Coordinator, and now, Recruitment Manager. Her team is absolutely crucial to our site’s success. Before joining our team, she worked as a behavioral technician in the Bay Area. She holds a BA in Cognitive Science from UC Berkeley.

  • Vee Martinez

    Vee Martinez

    Clinical Research Lab Coordinator

    Vee (short for Vicenta) has been a research and medical assistant for over 10 years, most recently at UC Irvine’s Neuroscience Imaging Center. She has also worked at the UC Irvine School of Medicine’s Psychiatric research division. She holds a Medical Assistant diploma from Everest College.

    Research Manager

    Nicole has over 25 years of medical experience, the last 16 of which have been as a clinical research coordinator or supervisor. She has deep experience in all areas of study conduct across both medical and CNS therapeutic areas. She holds a CCRC certification from ACRP, as well as a Medical Assistant diploma from Cabot College.

    Athea is an experienced sales professional with managerial experience in technology, real estate, and clinical research. She initially joined us in 2019 and helped shape our team to be what it is today. She holds a BS in Psychology from University of North Georgia.

    Clinical Research Coordinator

    Myranda is a multi-talented research professional who now coordinates clinical studies. Previously, she was quickly promoted from research assistant to recruitment coordinator due to her superior communications skills. She has experienced three grandparents with Alzheimer’s Disease and has seen its effects first-hand. Prior to joining us, she worked at a senior living facility and earned a BSBA in Marketing from University of Denver.

    Regulatory Coordinator

    Rona joined our team in 2022 after two years of research experience, first at UC Irvine and later at the largest outpatient radiology provider in the country. She is bilingual in Tagalog. She holds a BS in Public Health from UC Irvine.

  • Joanna Plascencia

    Joanna Plascencia, MSBMS

    Lab Coordinator

    Joanna, a CSUDH alumna with a Bachelor's in Clinical Laboratory Science, completed her Master's in Biomedical Sciences from Charles R. Drew, where she investigated the role of CCL22 in HER2+ breast cancer. Prior to joining ICR, she was a mobile phlebotomist at UCI Health, where she expertly and compassionately served elderly subacute patients.

    Nicolette is a dynamic professional with 4 years of business experience. She is passionate about helping people access our programs in brain health research. She holds a BA in Sociology from Cal State Long Beach.

  • Farah Toullier-Garcia

    Farah Toullier-Garcia

    Clinical Research Coordinator

    Farah has over 10 years of research project management experience across various therapeutic areas. She has experience managing Phase 1-3 neurodegenerative clinical trials, NIH Pediatric and Precision Medicine studies, and COVID-19 serology antibody biomarker clinical research. She holds a B.A. in Cognitive Science and a certificate in Applied Project Management from UC Irvine.

  • Valerie Rivera

    Valerie Rivera, LVN

    Research Nurse / Clinical Research Coordinator

    Valerie leads our clinical trial in Alzheimer’s Disease prevention. She has also helped mentor several of our emerging professionals. Before joining our site, she worked at a busy plastic surgery center. She holds a BS in Kinesiology from Cal Poly Pomona and completed her LVN certification in 2023.

    Graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Psychological and Brain Sciences, Sheena blends clinical insight with compassionate care. Having previously worked as an ophthalmological surgical assistant and a nursing assistant caring for the elderly, she brings a unique perspective to her role as a Research Assistant.

    Becca is an early career researcher passionate about cognition. She is completing her PhD dissertation in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience at UC Riverside. She holds a MA in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience from UC Riverside, as well as a BS in Psychology from UC San Diego.
